FLYING ON NEON WINGS (We are Angels on Earth)
Everyone wants freedom - freedom in words, actions and of being. But everybody's free to do anything. We have democracy. But what bounds us? Our words promises, our actions its effects, how we think we're bound by our thoughts. We need wings to fly. To be free but are we truly free?
Artist / designer Clint Catalan, takes this thought literally by creating a "wing-shaped-bag" out of wood, paint and fabric. Just like Icarus had wings but flew too close to the sun, he asks the following questions Do we craft wings to fly to our own demise? Or do we have too much freedom? One could answer with what one does in the name of freedom and what one does not do to forsake it.
The questions are also translated to the would-be users of the bag Do we put things in it that will help us get through the day? Do we put light things but aren't useful? Or put in heavy things, but will make our lives easier? Do we really carry enough things? things that can help others?
The artist believes that - we are angels on earth; we guard the earth, ourselves and others. Each of us is born with wings. And it's up to us to take care of these wings given to us - to grow the wings and fly high or choose to do nothing about it. Going to the extremes can be troublesome too we even cut it if we don't want it and scar ourselves for life or even grow it large enough for us to dare touch the sun.
Each one of us has a different undertaking on the subject be it - limiting ourselves or expanding our capacity as a person to achieve freedom.
I want my wings neon colored. Yes, because "I CAN."
